OCEAN POUNDS

OCEANPOUNDS.com is the online platform where you can explore and acquire works by Lee Ka-sing and Holly Lee. The collection includes a wide range of originals, unique pieces, multiples, objects, and artifacts. If you're looking for specific works not listed on the site, feel free to inquire by emailing mail@leekasing.com.

The platform also features works by artists previously represented by their gallery, as well as those connected to their projects and activities over the years. Selected pieces from their personal collection are also available.

Notable artists include Nobuyoshi Araki, Yau Leung, Kai Chan, Gary Michael Dault, Christopher Doyle, Shelley Savor, and others. The inventory includes original works from the OP Print Program, the Art Brownie small works project, and Old Hong Kong Photographs, showcasing originals by veteran photographers such as Ngan Chun Tung, Mak Fung, and Yau Leung, who were previously represented by Ka-sing.

Since 2020, Ka-sing and Holly have focused on book publishing, compiling many of their works into curated volumes. These books are produced in small print runs using print-on-demand, primarily for libraries and collectors. While some titles may still be available on BLURB, most are offered as affordable PDF ebooks on this site.

FOUNDERS

OCEAN POUNDS was founded by Lee Ka-sing and Holly Lee, both with backgrounds in creative writing and visual arts. They met in the mid-1970s and established their photography studio in 1977. As two of the most significant figures in Hong Kong's contemporary photography history, they have been pioneers in alternative photography, contributing to the field through personal works, professional assignments, publishing, and promoting photo collecting. Their efforts have played a crucial role in advancing and preserving contemporary photography in Hong Kong.

The Lees spearheaded several influential initiatives, including publishing DISLOCATION, launching the OP Print program to promote photo collecting, and founding the NuNaHeDuo Centre of Photography. In 1997, they relocated to Toronto, Canada, where they continued their artistic endeavors, including gallery projects and publishing ventures. Following Holly’s passing in fall 2024, efforts are underway to compile her extensive body of work into a collection of over 20 book volumes.

Ka-sing remains actively engaged in creating photo-based works and creative writings. Their photography is held in the collections of prominent institutions, including the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, M+ Museum, Hong Kong Heritage Museum, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Founded in Hong Kong in the mid-1990s, OCEAN POUNDS was later incorporated in Canada in 2000.
