OCEAN POUNDS

OCEANPOUNDS.com is the online platform where you can acquire works by Lee Ka-sing and Holly. From originals and unique pieces to multiples, objects, and artifacts, a wide variety of their works are available. If you have specific works in mind that are not listed on the site, please inquire by emailing mail@leekasing.com.

This site also offers works by artists represented by their gallery during its operation, as well as artists connected to their organized activities over the past years. Some selections from their personal collections are also available.

These artists include Nobuyoshi Araki, Yau Leung, Kai Chan, Gary Michael Dault, Christopher Doyle, Shelley Savor, and others. The inventory also includes extensive original works from the OP Print Program, the Art Brownie small work project, and Old Hong Kong Photographs, featuring originals by Ngan Chun Tung, Mak Fung, and Yau Leung, the three veteran photographers previously represented by Ka-sing.

Since 2020, Ka-sing and Holly have focused on book publishing, compiling many of their works into books. These are produced in small print runs using print-on-demand, primarily for libraries and book collectors. Some of these books might still be available at BLURB, but most are offered as PDF ebooks on this site at very low costs.

FOUNDERS

OCEAN POUNDS was founded by Lee Ka-sing and Holly Lee, who share backgrounds in creative writing and visual art. They met in the mid-nineties and established their photography studio in 1976. Recognized as two of the most important photographers in Hong Kong's contemporary photography history, they have been pioneers of alternative photography, from personal works to professional assignments, advancing and archiving photography through publishing and promoting photo collecting. Their contributions have significantly shaped the development of contemporary photography in Hong Kong.

They have been involved in various influential projects, including publishing DISLOCATION, initiating the OP Print program for photo collections, and founding the NuNaHeDuo Centre of Photography. In 1997, the Lee family relocated to Toronto, Canada, where they continued their art-related projects, including gallery ventures and publishing. Today, Ka-sing and Holly remain active in creating works, ranging from photo-based series to creative writings. Their photography is part of collections at institutions such as the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, M+ Museum, Hong Kong Heritage Museum, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

OCEAN POUNDS was founded in Hong Kong in the mid-nineties and later incorporated in Canada in 2000.
