Harbours And City Flowers

Tonight's Global news
has a coastal view
of the Toronto harbour
which always reminds me
of Victoria
a harbour so familiar
I put a bauhinia
in front of it

I want to put
a trillium
a rose
a white magnolia
in harbours I remember
in Güler's Istanbul
I feel the same melancholy
seeing old photographs
of streets and waters
tramcars and places
people's silhouettes and faces
echoing the ghosts
of a place I lived
for forty four years
